January sees increases in divorce filings

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Monday, January 10, 2011. While many look at the new year and promise to reinvent and start living life on a new track, attorneys across the country are saying they see a trend in January of people who take those resolutions very literally and decide to end a marriage. The trend is so prevalent for people to file for divorce after the holidays that in some circles the Monday after New Year’s is even dubbed “divorce day,” or as WWL reported “Black Monday,” which is a reference to the most popular shopping day,

Communication is critical in co-parenting

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Thursday, January 6, 2011. Raising a child after a divorce can be challenging for both parents, but with clear lines of communication open, co-parenting can be less of a hassle. After a divorce; and the child custody and visitation arrangements are all finalized, it can be easy to feel like a single parent. However, it is important to remember that your child does have another parent, and that their opinions and routines matter and that the two of you are still raising the child together. Aside from being able to make decisions together, it’s also

Modifications may be available in Missouri after a parent loses a job

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Monday, January 3, 2011. With a downed economy it could be harder to keep a job or even find a job, and because of this, children are suffering financially if their non-custodial parent can either not afford to pay child support, or is paying a lot less than he or she used to. A new study found that children of divorced parents are responsible for more of college’s financial burdens than those students’ whose parents are still together. Forty-percent of babies born in U.S. are born out of wedlock

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Monday, December 27, 2010. According to recent statistics, births to unwed mothers reached an all-time high of about 40 percent.  This is a trend that began years before.  More than three-quarters of these women were 20 or older. According to Duke University’s Philip Morgan, a legal researcher, for a variety of reasons, it’s become more acceptable for women to have babies without a husband. With out-of-wedlock birth rates this high, many unmarried fathers falsely assume that they can avoid the court system when they were not married to the mother.  However, this is predominately untrue.  Just
