Helping adult children cope with divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Monday, January 24, 2011. There is no set time and age that a couple decides to get a divorce. Maybe it was after just a few short months of marriage, or maybe the couple decided it was time to split after more than 20 years of marriage? Either way, if children are involved – regardless of their age – the split will most likely have some sort of impact on them. Often times people tend to believe that a divorce is only hard on younger children, however, according to Vicki Lansky, who is an author

Halle Berry’s ex files for joint custody of daughter

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Thursday, January 20, 2011. After splitting up in the spring, Halle Berry’s ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry has decided to file for joint custody of the couple’s only child. The petition was filed late last month, and asks for joint physical and legal custody of 2-year-old daughter Nahla, and to officially declare Aubry as the father of the child. According to sources, Aubry decided to file for child custody in order to keep and protect his right’s as a father. And while this story deals with celebrities, and no court decision has been made yet, it

Missouri representative pushes for “Sam and Lindsey’s Law”

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. It’s estimated that 350,000 children are kidnapped by a parent every year. To try and combat this high number, one Missouri state representative wants to push a bill through the legislature that would give police officers more access to visitation and child custody agreements. If passed, this new law would allow for Missouri police officers to access a full database of all visitation and child custody agreements between two parents, which means the law would affect not only noncustodial parents, but also custodial parents and those who share joint legal custody.

Lack of a child visitation plan can lead to complications

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. A lack of a plan for child visitation can lead to easily avoidable spats between two divorced or no-longer-together parents. The importance of having a carefully drafted visitation plan, including holiday schedules, was highlighted on New Year’s Eve after police responded to the home of a University of Pittsburgh football coach for an alleged domestic violence incident. According to sources, things had gotten physical between the coach and the mother of his 1-year-old child, after the woman had attempted to remove the child from his home just because she suspected

January sees increases in divorce filings

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Monday, January 10, 2011. While many look at the new year and promise to reinvent and start living life on a new track, attorneys across the country are saying they see a trend in January of people who take those resolutions very literally and decide to end a marriage. The trend is so prevalent for people to file for divorce after the holidays that in some circles the Monday after New Year’s is even dubbed “divorce day,” or as WWL reported “Black Monday,” which is a reference to the most popular shopping day,

Communication is critical in co-parenting

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Visitation on Thursday, January 6, 2011. Raising a child after a divorce can be challenging for both parents, but with clear lines of communication open, co-parenting can be less of a hassle. After a divorce; and the child custody and visitation arrangements are all finalized, it can be easy to feel like a single parent. However, it is important to remember that your child does have another parent, and that their opinions and routines matter and that the two of you are still raising the child together. Aside from being able to make decisions together, it’s also
