Study: Distance has impact on fathers’ contact with children

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Fathers’ Rights on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. A study that looked at the involvement a noncustodial father has with his children pointed to one of the biggest factors coming down to how far away he is living from his kids. This distance can be due to the father choosing to live farther or closer, but also if the mother decides to relocate the children. The study looked at parental involvement of approximately 23,000 people over a 14 year period. In order to determine how often the father saw their children, the mother was the one who

Missouri father fights to get daughter back from Costa Rica

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Friday, February 25, 2011. A Missouri father has been fighting to get his 2-year-old daughter back since 2009 when the girl’s mother abducted the little girl and moved to Costa Rica. And even though both the Missouri courts and Costa Rican courts have ruled in favor of the father having child custody, the little girl is yet to be returned home. The story highlights what must be every father’s worst nightmare: to have their child abducted and taken to another country, and then having to spend years trying to get her back home.

Failing to pay child support can equal jail time

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. Failing to pay court-ordered child support is a serious offense and one that most judges don’t take to kindly too. Recently one man was even sentenced to serve 270 days in prison, and five years of probation, for owing more than $55,000 in child support. At this point he’s already served 113 of those prison days, and has been credited for them. According to the judge who sentenced the 38-year-old father, since 1994 when his son was born, he’s only paid child support three times. In response to not

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Thursday, February 17, 2011. Even though a father used all proper channels when he moved his daughter from Missouri to Iowa, he is still not being awarded full custody. The child custody case goes back to November when the 24-year-old father was contacted by the mother of his 2-year-old and told to come pick up his daughter and that the little girl could live with him. At the time that he picked up the girl, he was even provided with a note from the mother of the child that stated that she was voluntarily having

Divorce can be healthy for kids with co-parenting

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Tuesday, February 15, 2011. Sometimes marriages just don’t last and end up in divorce. And while those times can be stressful on everyone, it is important to stay level headed around children and to not use children as a weapon against an ex spouse. If at all possible, co-parenting is a great option for raising children after a divorce. With co-parenting, each parent has an active role and is for the most part in agreement on how to raise the children. And while it may sound difficult to come to these agreements with a soon-to-be
