Divorce battle continues with who owns the Dodgers

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, April 7, 2011. Since 2009 Frank and Jamie McCourt have been in an ongoing property division divorce battle over who owns the Los Angeles Dodgers. At hand is whether Frank McCourt is the sole owner of the team, or if Jamie is entitled to partial ownership. As of now no set-in-stone decision has been made in the property division case, but the couple’s court date has been moved to May 11 to give the two more time for possible negotiating. As of now Frank McCourt contends that he is the sole owner, and will

Man who owes child support waited too long for paternity test

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Right now a 52-year-old man has found himself in a particularly frustrating situation: he owes close to $200,000 for a child that he is most likely not the father of. Rather, the late comic Sam Kinison who passed away in 1992 is probably really the father. And while the man recently went to court to try and have the child support agreement dissolved, a judge ruled last week that the unpaid child support cannot be contested because the 52-year-old simply waited too long to contest the paternity of the child

Study: Parents of twins more likely to divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, March 31, 2011. A new study found that couples who have twins as their first born are more likely to get a divorce than those couples who either have no children, or have kids one at a time. And while there are no concrete answers as to why the parents of twins have slightly higher divorce rates, researchers did note that added financial and emotional stress is most likely to blame. The study compared the marital status of 800,000 families from the 1980 census. That year was chosen because the census included information related

Divorce over 50: Make sure to consider all assets in settlement

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Monday, March 28, 2011. Each divorce can have its own set of questions. Who gets the family home? How are the bank accounts going to be split up? And who gets custody of the kids? And while these are all legitimate concerns, it turns out that when people over the age of 50 decide to file for a divorce, they tend to be looking at a whole new set of concerns that those younger are most likely not faced with. For one thing, with older couples, child custody may not be an issue – as

Mother faces ten felony charges for unpaid child support

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Thursday, March 24, 2011. A mother is facing ten felony charges for failure to pay child support. At this point she owes more than $50,000, and if convicted on all ten of the charges she could face more than 23 years in prison. The 33-year-old mother owes all of the child support for one child that she gave birth to in 1999. And while she owes money for different sporadic time periods since her divorce, the longest stretch of time is from September of 2006 to December of 2010 when she did not make
