Tips to avoid financial pitfalls after a divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Friday, June 10, 2011. Across the country divorce attorneys are seeing the same patterns: a recently divorced spouse living outside of their means, couples not finalizing property agreements properly and parents fighting for a child’s love through extravagant gifts. However, with some careful planning many of the most common financial pitfalls that are made either leading up to or right after a divorce can easily be avoided. 1. Spending more than is feasible For some there may have been a set way of living with both spouses working. However, with only one income, budgeting will have

Custody dispute leads to alleged abduction, three-year disappearance

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Thursday, June 9, 2011. Once they are moved to the back burner, not many cold cases stand a realistic chance of being solved. That wasn’t the story for a three-year-old Missouri child abduction case, however. A sheriff’s detective in Pulaski County recently reviewed the case of a 30-year-old woman who allegedly abducted her daughter in 2008 after a long-running child custody dispute with the girl’s father. Two weeks before the incident, a judge had awarded joint custody of the child to the woman and the child’s father. The woman evidently left a note for

Father arrested on warrants for owing $214,647 in child support

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Support on Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Failing to pay child support is an offense that can carry with it some rather serious consequences. And while a parent may be able to skirt by without paying for some time, there are typically officials working for the state who are specifically on the lookout for those parents who have fallen behind or are refusing to make their court-ordered payments. Recently one 41-year-old father learned this first hand when he was arrested for supposedly owing more than $200,000 in child support. According to sources the father owes $214,647

Study finds that long commutes increase the chances of divorce

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Thursday, May 26, 2011. Have to drive a long way every day just to get to work? Maybe the office is 30 minutes each way, or maybe it’s even an hour – or longer – each way. And while this might be somewhat frustrating to the person who has to spend hours every week driving to and from work, it turns out that it may also increase their chance of divorce. According to a recent study, those commuters who are just starting a long travel to work had a 40 percent higher chance of

Japan closer to changing child abduction laws

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Child Custody on Tuesday, May 24, 2011. As previously reported on this blog, Japan ranks very high in terms of international abductions. In fact, the U.S. State Department reports that since 1994 a total of 321 children have been abducted or moved to Japan without both parent’s permission. Of those 321 children, none have been returned. However, under mounting pressure from the U.S. to change how international child custody arrangements are followed, the Japanese Cabinet has approved a plan that would fall more in line with the Hague Convention on the Prevention of Child Abduction. Now the

Facebook and social media showing up in more divorce cases

On behalf of Stange Law Firm, PC posted in Divorce on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. It seems innocent enough at first: A simple friend request online with an ex. But for some, it turns out the temptation to connect goes behind just chatting online and leads to real life affairs. One now ex-husband recently shared his story, claiming that Facebook ruined his marriage as it allowed his wife to reconnect with an ex boyfriend from more than 20 years ago. And while this relationship may have just started out as casual online friends, it ended up turning into an extramarital affair that led to
